PLD Learning Centre provides specialist individual therapy to children aged 0-10 years. The centre is well resourced and located centrally within Perth, Western Australia. The centre offers experienced therapists who work with families and schools to maximise each child’s skills. With a specialist literacy program in place PLD Learning Centre offers a unique service within Perth.

The Speech Pathologists at the PLD Learning Centre specialise in: 

  • Comprehension: the understanding of spoken and written language. 
  • Speech or Articulation 
  • Grammar: The way words are put into sentences. 
  • Narrative Skills: the ability to tell or write stories. 
  • Vocabulary: Knowledge of words. 
  • Semantics: Knowledge of word meanings, the relationships (similarities and differences) between words. 
  • Reading, writing and spelling
  • Phonological Awareness: ability to hear, identify, process, blend and segment individual sounds in words.
  • Social Skills: how we interact with other people in different situations.
  • Stuttering

Occupational Therapy Centre Services

The Occupational Therapists at the PLD Learning Centre specialise in:

  • Information Processing: this is all about how we process incoming information from our senses, our bodies and the environment so that we can attend, move, interact, with and understand the world we live in.
  • Fine Motor Skills: this is how we use our hands and fingers to touch and manipulate and use different objects. We need fine motor skills for self care e.g. dressing and eating but also at school e.g. writing and cutting, at work e.g. typing, and in recreation e.g. sewing, painting.
  • Gross Motor Skills: these are the skills we have to move our bodies to move and play. These include running, hopping, balancing, ball skills plus many more.

The Centre offers:

  • Centre-based, school-based & home-based assessment and treatment sessions. 
  • Parental advice/guidance and school-based support [E.g. Attendance at school-based case conferences to 'manage' children (i.e. the private system working in partnership with the education system)].
  • Resource provision: home programs, school programs, and programs for tutors. 
  • For rural parents: the PLD team can provide intensive "blocks" (i.e. daily sessions spread over a week) or the PLD team can provide specifically devised programs for schools/tutors. 
  • Hearing screening: for middle ear infections and hearing loss.

To attend the centre, parents will need to phone the office and make an appointment. If you require referral pads or business cards please phone the office.

All Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists at PLD Learning Centre are trained specifically in literacy and the requirements for K-7 classrooms.
